CHILDREN’S AND FANTASY AUTHOR
David is a Graphic Designer and Creative Writer who lives in Victoria, BC with his wife and children. He grew up in England, where his love of exploring the outdoors led to all sorts of adventures, partly thanks to the ‘forest’ that was his backyard.
As a child, David was diagnosed with dyslexia and always found reading and writing to be a struggle. It was this challenge that led him to create fun and expressive ways to capture his own observations and stories.
The What Does Series started as a storytelling game created for David’s son when heading to and from daycare as a creative way for him to teach his son all about nature while answering a never-ending stream of toddler questions in a fun way.
“One story soon led to another, and before he knew it, the What Does Series was born!”
David hopes that the imaginative What Does Series of books about insects and animals helps children discover both a love and understanding of the beautiful world that surrounds us all while also allowing them to feel confident in their reading through humour and interactive storytelling.
Lucy Rogers
CHILDREN’S ILLUSTRATOR
Lucy is based in Oxfordshire, England where she works as a deaf freelance illustrator. Lucy earned a BA Hons in Illustration at Falmouth University and was shortlisted for the Penguin Student Design Award for her cover artwork in the book Wonder.
“An advocate, and creative supporter of illustration workshops for young deaf people, Lucy has helped many young artists bloom.”
As an aspiring author, Lucy looks for creative ways to bring a sense of positive change through her own stories and illustrations—inspiring unrepresented children in the publishing industry.
Lucy grew up surrounded by nature in the quiet countryside where she enjoyed exploring the outdoors, creating whimsical themes and funny little characters. It was from this early moment in her life that she developed a passion for children’s books: a place where she could share the stories of a diverse range of imaginary characters representing the different cultures and communities within our beautiful world.
